6 events in Vancouver that make January awesome

6 events in Vancouver that make January awesome

January 21, 2015

January can sort of suck. It’s cold. The bills come in. We have less to look forward to…

Then I shook myself out of that negative funk. C’mon! It isn’t so bad.

I made a list of some things to look forward to right now. They are all inexpensive or completely free, mostly outdoors and hopefully fun.

Here you go:

Street Food City IV

Yeah, it’s back. Over 20 food trucks in one place: North Plaza, Vancouver Art Gallery. This one is self-explanatory. The hours are Monday - Thursday 11 am - 3 pm, Friday - Sunday 11 am - 5 pm.

Skating at The Robson Square Ice Rink!

I miss this opportunity every year and it’s a mistake. Skating is free with your own skates or $4 cash to rent a pair. It’s perfectly acceptable to be a really bad skater, (like me).

Open 9 am - 9 pm Sunday - Thursday, or 9 am - 11 pm Friday and Saturday

Dine Out Vancouver!

I never miss this one. Over 250 restaurants have a fixed-priced, set course (usually three) menu starting at $18 per person. Basically, I can’t afford many of these places during the year so it’s my opportunity to try some unbelievable food for about a twenty spot.

Chinese New Year!

This is the Year of the Ram. It is February 19, 2015. Go watch the parade, give each other lucky money, go have dim sum. Yes ok, most of these are really about food.

Winter Farmer’s Market at Nat Bailey Stadium

There is hardly anything better to do on a rainy Saturday in winter than go to the Farmer’s Market at Nat Bailey. It’s every Saturday 10 am - 2 pm until April 25. Try the honey. Try the cookies. Try the potatoes. Try the everything.

The Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival

Ok, these ARE all basically about food. Yes, this is a real thing. January 17th to February 14th over twenty cafes in the city have a plethora of hot chocolates for you to try. There is a map, menu, and everything.

Ok, now do you feel better? Just make sure to throw a little exercise in between and it’s all good!

Enjoy the rest of January!
