It starts with yogurt containers. Yep, full-size yogurt containers. The larger ones that you spoon into a bowl, or sometimes when you can’t be bothered, eat out of like a giant yogurt cup.
In late April the City of Vancouver announced that our green yard clippings bins could also house compostable food waste such as uncooked fruit and veggies, coffee grounds and filters, tea bags and egg shells.
This is a really cool thing! So last week I find myself eating a lot of yogurt so that I can have an empty container, rinse it out and start popping in my tomato ends, tea bags and egg shells. It’s sort of gross. I’m going to be honest. It molds and kind of smells.
But that smell? It’s the smell of change. It’s the fact that I inconvenience myself, gross myself out, endure a little mold, just so that a few grams of waste doesn’t end up in a landfill.
And you know what? I’m happy to be doing it.
You see, it starts with things like this, those little details that drive bigger change. What’s next for me? Well, fewer trips in the car, greener packaging and grocery shopping, the list awaits.
That’s why we’re Green Grads. That’s why we offer eco-friendly Window Cleaning, Gutter Cleaning and Pressure Washing. Because we know that there are homeowners out there that make those greener choices, like our natural window cleaning solutions and composted gutter waste in biodegradable bags.
It’s the little things that will add up to that big difference. And we’re proud to be a part of it. One tea bag, one eggshell, one client at a time.
