How to Clean Window Screens

Window screens are the mesh filters that sit in your window frame and protect your home’s interior from unwanted entrants.

Screens provide the peace of mind that, on days when you want to open your window, you won’t also be inviting bugs, rodents, or even small animals to come hang out!

Because of their exposure to the outdoor elements, window screens can become dusty and dirty. We often get asked to clean screens as part of our window cleaning services.

Why Clean Window Screens?

It’s important to clean your screens to improve the air quality in your home, prolong the life of the screens themselves, and restore them to a crisp and clean look.

How to Clean Window Screens:

Cleaning window screens requires a gentle touch and a simple by-hand method.

STEP ONE:

First, we remove the screen from the frame. If the screens remove from the interior of your home only, we ask that you do this before 9 AM on the day of service. You can leave them in a conspicuous place. We’ll wash them and replace them to that spot.

Pro tip: There are many types of window screens but most have a plastic tab for you to pull on to remove them. Be careful with the plastic hardware as it can become brittle.

STEP TWO:

Using a natural solution including soap and water, we wash both sides of your window screen with a microfibre cloth to remove all dirt and dust. We then rinse the entire screen carefully.

STEP THREE:

Then, we simply allow the screens to air dry before re-installing them in the window. Again, if they are accessed from the interior, we will leave them out for you to install.

The result is a completely clean window!

If you would like your screens cleaned, please add this to your window cleaning request and we can quote accordingly.
